I'm a biology graduate student at Cal State LA doing my thesis project on the conservation of Western gray squirrels in Griffith Park. I'm using iNaturalist to collect location data on Western gray squirrel and Eastern fox squirrel distribution in Griffith Park. This information will be used to help place non-invasive "hairtubes" to collect Western gray squirrel hair for genetic analysis. The results of the genetic analysis will show the amount of genetic diversity present within the Western gray squirrel population. This is important to preservation and management of Western gray squirrel population in Griffith Park.
