This guy was out hunting at a bat box at 4p. Whit eased him take 2 juvenile pups :(
This owl landed near our campsite and caught two rodents in the span of maybe 45 minutes. We think we saw it, or another one (its mate?) in a tree on the Lakeshore Trail later in the day. Then it (or a conspecific) came back near our campsite again in the evening. I thought it was odd to see an owl so many times during the day.
Clear vocalizations heard over a period of time. Appeared to be two individuals communicating based on direction of sound.

I didn't quite want to believe it when it was pointed out to me what kind of bird the Cooper's was grasping, but looking closer, it seems likely that it's a Pygmy Owl.
