The White-tailed Hummingbird (Campylopterus ensipennis) is classified as near threatened, according to the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources’ Red List and was declared an Environmentally Sensitive Species in 2005. It inhabits mature montane forest, edges of clearings, shaded coffee and abandoned plantations. In Tobago it is found in the Main Ridge Forest Reserve. In 1963, the Tobago population fell dramatically following the destruction of hurricane Flora, but it appears to be recovering.
