Productive Summer

It has been a productive summer so far on the Maryland Science Center Green Roof. Observation and monitoring has been at the forefront, identifying species and determining their flowering seasons.
We have begun to create a butterfly garden with the installation of several plants such as milkweed, bee balm and lobelia. The majority of the plants have survived the hot summer with regular watering.
During the fall season, trimming and pruning is the focus. Lavender has been cut back and/or transplanted. The majority of weeds are being pulled. Plans for cutting back the tall grasses and planting fall asters are in the works.
