This project collects observations of diseases and pests that afflict plants in the Malvaceae family in California:

• Hollyhock Rust (Puccinia malvacearum). Plant can easily get P. malvacearum from metal fences. The symptom of disease is dark red spots appearing on the underside of the leaves.
• Powdery mildew.
• Leaf spot and anthracnose.
• Mallow flea beetle prefers mallows and hollyhocks. This beetle is usually up to 5 mm (0.2 inches) long and can be identified by its yellow-red head and dark blue wing coverlets. Mostly, these pests are not dangerous to the plant.
• Bactericera lavaterae (Island Mallow Psyllid)
• Other pest problems include Japanese beetle, spider mites, snails and slugs.
