NIWA have a project to fill this info gap. All users of the New Zealand’s outdoors, from fishers, boaties, hunters, farmers, foresters, trampers, dive club members, Fish and Game members, rangers, and others can help with this national survey using NatureWatch NZ.
Enter any fish observations here - these can include recent sightings, historical records, and also information on where fish are not seen. To record a location where you looked for grey mullet but didn't see any select 'yes' in the 'Sought but not Found' drop-down box. Add any extra info in the 'Comments' box too. All of your local knowledge is helpful in building a better picture this poorly understood fish species!
