Rewilding our yards can be an essential contribution to staving off the 6thMassExtinction currently in progress due to human destruction of habitat among other environmental changes. Individual home owners often feel helpless in the face of what one small yard can accomplish towards turning around the extinction crisis. Container gardens may be one way everyone can promote biodiversity on their veranda or yard. These small plantings are lower in cost, time maintenance but may be able to boost the microhabitats available to a wider diversity on creatures in this often diversity poor Anthropocene Landscapes. Here is my list of creatures my container garden pots are providing novel habitat to. In this project I am focusing on the underground of each container! Soil builds up, mosses grow and a soil-like biota takes hold. It is darker and moister under each pot creating a microclimate nether world between the deep soil and the top of the soil.
