We are tracking the diversity of species that use my brother's (a forester and logging sports competitor) leftover wood piles and debris as shelter and host on one property in Shasta Lake, CA. These are not typically disturbed or protected from the elements the same way a firewood pile would be, and as they slowly decay, host insects, gastropods, slime molds, and fungi. A surprising number of different organisms are visible on a single day within a five foot radius. menos ↑
