DARLa

The goal of this project is to contribute knowledge of the geographic distribution of amphibians and reptiles in Louisiana. All naturally occurring and introduced species in the state are of interest. Over time, we hope that this project may contribute to a more complete understanding of geographic distribution in relation to environmental characteristics and how distributions may change over time. Valuable observations may be contributed by any interested individuals with the anticipation that the data will be useful in conservation, education, and research endeavors by herpetologists in Louisiana and other areas.
Please observe the following suggestions as best you are able in order to make your observations more valuable:

• indicate the map datum if you know it to be other than WGS84 (the default for most GPS units and I assume in telephones)
• indicate the spatial accuracy if known (e.g., +/- 10 m or ft)
• the state of the specimen if not obvious from your photo (e.g., alive, dead, DOR for “dead on road”)
• submit multiple photos if needed for others to be able to positively confirm your preliminary ID, such as top and bottom of a turtle or snake (if possible); one photo is often not enough for a positive ID, or a head close-up may be needed in order to look at scales on a lizard, for example
• include additional comments when appropriate, such as number of specimens observed, the habitat, or interesting behaviors (such as breeding, egg laying, calling, feeding)
