Ahi Pepe | MothNet

Help build relative abundance and distribution data on moths across New Zealand by adding moth trap observations to our Ahi Pepe | MothNet project.

The aim of this project is to trap and collect Lepidoptera using light traps to answer two related questions:

1. What is the distribution and ecology of moths in the Otago region?
2. How does artificial lighting influence moth species richness and relative species abundances within the Otago region?

This project started in 2015 as part of an MBIE-funded Curious Minds project. In 2016, it became Ahi Pepe | MothNet and expanded across the South Island and in 2018 reached the North Island.
