Pluteus observed in the Mangemangeroa Reserve - Pluteus sp. (cf. decoloratus)
Horak describes Pluteus decoloratus from a South Island observation and this creamy species that I observe may be a different species.
The light colour of the cap of this species distinguishes it in the field from other species although the cap colour can range through to light tan which can be more difficult to recognise. Microscopically the most distinctive character is the shape of the pileipellis cap cells. Pleurocystidia can be plentiful or difficult to find. Where present they are thin-walled and typically utriform in shape. “Pinhead, capitate, finger-like or lobate projections" have been observed (as described by Horak under Pluteus readiarum).
The fruit bodies of this species are typically about 3 cm in diameter but can be up to 6 cm. The cap is light cream-pink in colour, usually with only a hint of tan colour but at times with a tan centre, occasionally they can appear light tan, generally in wet conditions. The gills are cream-pink in colour with a concolorous gill edge and the stipe is also cream.
Abundance: Commonly observed in the Mangemangeroa Reserve.

Two separate observations of a "white" Pluteus. Cap size typically about 3 cm in diameter x 3 cm height but can be up to 6 cm in diameter. Cap convex, velvety, colour a very light cream-pink typically only with a hint of tan but occasionally tan squamules over centre. Gills cream turning pink, concolourous. Stipe, cream-tan, 3-4 mm diameter. (up to 7 mm). On small fallen branches in remnant mature coastal broadleaf forest.

Small Pluteus with a light creamy velvety cap with a hint of tan in the centre. Observed growing up to 2 cm in diameter and 2 cm in height. The gills were creamy-pale pink with a concolorous edge. The stipe is creamy. Remnant mature coastal broadleaf forest.

This Pluteus was very pale cream and lined at the margin. The gills were cream turning pink. The cap was convex in shape and the size was 1.9 cm in diameter and 2.3 cm in height. The stipe was cream and pruinose. Remnant mature coastal broadleaf forest.

This Pluteus had a very velvety convex cap which was light tan in colour with a paler margin. The gills were creamy-pink with a concolorous gill edge. The stipe was a very light creamy-tan and was pruinose expecially towards the base. This cap was 2.3 cm in diameter and 3 cm in height. Growing amongst moss on the bark of a small fallen branch.
